Recently, I became part of the 2015 Texas 4000 ride team. We are a group of 76 undergraduate and graduate students from The University of Texas at Austin with a passion for fighting cancer through hope, knowledge, and charity. This summer, all the 2015 Texas 4000 riders will embark on the twelfth annual 4,500-mile journey across North America in hopes of inspiring communities from all across the country to join us in the battle against cancer. Starting May 2015, we will ride our bikes from The University of Texas at Austin to Anchorage, Alaska. This is the longest charity bike ride in the world (more than twice the distance of the Tour de France), and will take 70 days to complete. Along the way, we will stop in communities to present cancer awareness programs in an effort to educate people on cancer prevention and early detection. Our goals and wishes are to inspire hope among those personally suffering from the disease and to raise awareness by sharing our stories and enthusiasm.
Texas 4000 for Cancer, is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the fight against cancer. Texas 4000 was founded in 2004, and since that time, has raised more than $3.5 million, which have funded cancer research projects at MD Anderson Cancer Center, the UT biomedical Engineering Department, and the survivorship programs at the LIVESTRONG Cancer Navigation Center. Over the next year and a half, as a team, we hope to raise at least $500,000 for the fight against cancer.
Although we are responsible for planning the routes, finding host families, and preparing the cancer programs, none of this would be possible without your help. Join me in the fight against cancer. Below are just some of the ways you can help and become part of my journey to Alaska:
My personal rider goal is $8000. Although we are only required to reach a minimum of $4,500, I want to go above and beyond the minimum requirement. With your help I know any goal is possible. Please make a donation of any size. Every penny can make a difference!
