Welcome Friends and Family!
On 1 June 2015, I will join 80 University of Texas students in a 4,500 mile bike ride from Austin, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska. We represent the 2015 Texas 4000 team, a group of students passionate about getting involved in the fight against cancer. Over the course of 70 days, we will stop in various communities along the way to spread HOPE, KNOWLEDGE, and CHARITY.
The riders of this epic journey participate in the LONGEST ANNUAL BIKE RIDE in the WORLD -- twice the distance of the Tour De France -- because of a similar belief in a better future. For many of us, cancer is not simply a disease that invades, metastasizes, and evades the immune system – it is something that affects our nearest and dearest ones. It is the strongest reminder of our mortality. It is a disease that does not discriminate, so to compensate we are here to spread a message of humanity, perseverance, and resilience.
I have joined the cause for my childhood best friend, Tyler Laas, and my grandpa, Popo. Whether we were tearing it up on the baseball diamond or racing around stores exploring the mall – one thing I noticed about Tyler always shined: his uncanny ability to bring energy to those around him. He was never afraid to make himself look silly or spend extra time listening to a friend.
Popo missed no opportunity to make you chuckle. Full of stories from the jungles of South America and the sands of Egypt, he had an extreme appreciation in sharing the beauty of the world with others. Tyler and Popo both invested their lives in the happiness of others. I will be riding to spread their Hope and Energy. I will mirror their uplifting and bright attitudes in enthusiastic encounters in upcoming towns, and also by keeping my fellow riders laughing, motivated, and light-hearted.
None of this is possible without your help!!!
It would mean so much to me if you would help me with in the fight!!
NO DONATION IS TOO SMALL!
All donations are 100% tax deductible.
My personal goal is to raise $6,000. Since its inception in 2004, Texas 4000, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, has donated over 3 million dollars toward cancer research. Most of these funds have gone to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, and more recently to the LIVESTRONG Cancer Navigation Center and to the University of Texas at Austin Biomedical Cancer Research Center. And we continue to grow every year, touching the lives of more and more people through donations to various projects and programs.
