WHAT IS HAUS KRAI?
The Haus Krai is a call to action to end violence against women in PNG, the Pacific and the world. The campaign launched on 6th February, 2013 and began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 2 in 3 women in Papua New Guinea have been beaten and/or raped during their lifetime. With the PNG population at 7 million plus, this adds up to more than 2.5 MILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS in PNG. This kind of violence exists in other parts of the Pacific and the world.
On 17th May 2013, people across the world came together to express their outrage, and to form a HAUS KRAI in defiance of the injustices women suffer, demanding an end to violence against women.
Last year, on 17th May 2014, the Haus Krai focused on the issue of justice for all survivors of gender violence. Events took place in 3 countries, where women, men, and youth came together.
The campaign was covered by media including ABC news,
EMTV and many more.
This year in 2015, we will form the Haus Krai again, and we invite you to join us!
This is a FREE people-led movement, for the people, and by the people. We all want a better future for PNG and we are all standing up to claim it, STAND WITH US!
