Trenton area jazz guitarists Bob Smith and Dick Gratton will be performing a mix of jazz standards, blues and vocals at the Trenton Pork Roll Festival at Trenton Social Restaurant - 449 S. Broad Street - Trenton NJ 08611 beginning at 10:00 AM.
Dick Gratton and Bob Smith have performed together at many spots in the Trenton area including Cedar Gardens Pub (Trenton NJ), Jester's Café (Bordentown NJ), The Mill Hill Playhouse (Trenton NJ) and events for the City of Trenton (Wednesdays On Warren) and lunchtime performances at the War Memorial Building. They also have played separately at several Trenton Jazz Festival dates and at Joe's Mill Hill Saloon for many years. Together they provide an interesting mixture of jazz, R&B and blues tunes, with vocals by Bob Smith.
Bob Smith has been playing in a trio format for well over 30 years, being active in night clubs between New York and Philadelphia. The trio has performed individually with such jazz greats as Junior Cook, Woody Shaw, Eddie McFadden, "Wild Bill" Davis and Denis DiBlasio. Well known in the Trenton area, his jazz/R&B style of playing and singing has been very popular with his audiences for many years. Recent appearances include The Top Shelf Lounge (Philadelphia PA), Amici's Restaurant (Trenton NJ) and 16 Prospect Wine Bar (Westfield NJ).
Dick Gratton started playing in night clubs in the fifties in the central New Jersey area. Dick has performed at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City, the 1998 Trenton Jazz Festival and in night clubs and guitar workshops with the late great jazz guitarist Tal Farlow as well as many special events for Hamilton Township (Azalea Festival and Septemberfest) and Trenton NJ (Trenton Jazz Festival and Heritage Days Festival). Dick's style of playing has been described as laid back and articulate - the kind of mainstream jazz that retains a recognizable melody and doesn't challenge the nervous system. Recent area appearances include Chambers Walk Café (Lawrenceville NJ), Cedar Gardens Pub and Trenton Social Restaurant (Trenton NJ), The Dog & Bull Brewhouse (Croydon PA) and the Brick Hotel (Newtown PA.)
