Canal Boat Excursion
Each year we look forward to whiling away one or two Sundays on the canal systems of the Midlands, and we have some new venues for 2015, starting with Wootton Wawen situated just to the North of Stratford Upon Avon.
We will hire two canal dayboats between 20 of us, and will have the option of either a northward or southward canal stretch along the Stratford Upon Avon Canal, passing several sleepy villages in mid Warwickshire. We will have breakfast and beverages on board, and will stop midway for a pub lunch somewhere.
Both routes are countrified, but there are a less locks and more pubs on the northerly route, which may influence our decision
The 10 or 20 places will be allocated on a first payments received basis (ensuring a not unreasonable imbalance between m/f) and please note that unfortunately no pets allowed on this occasion. At least two places will be reserved for members with some experience of skippering/steering a narrowboat, although everyone will have an opportunity at the helm!
Public Transport options on a Sunday are probably not practical (although Wootton Wawen does have a train station about a mile away), but car sharing from a meeting point somewhere in the Sutton Coldfield area will be arranged, from where trains/buses do run regularly! This will be at 8am
There will be plenty of photography opportunities, and some onboard entertainment if we need it. Everyone will have an opportunity to steer, following safety instruction. There are no significant tunnels or drawbridges to navigate.
Guests are possible, but we have disabled the meetup +1 guest facility, since guests must join the group for insurance reasons.
There are 20 places only on this trip, assuming we have two boats
The meet point is:-
Anglowelsh, Wootton Wawen Boatyard, Wootton Wawen, Warwickshire. We will advise postcode nearer the time. Please note the early start for 08:45 boarding
Payment is required to confirm your place. The cost is £17 per person including a breakfast! Payment is via paypal (either directly or using the meetup link) to firstname.lastname@example.org using the gift to friends/family option, or by cheque either using 1st class post or by hand at an immediate event.
WHAT TO BRING
We will have pub stop opportunities for food and drink, though feel free to bring your own drinks for the boat. We will bring some food for bacon sandwiches, and tea/biscuits. If you want to bring other food, then ok within reason, but not too much, as we're limited on space, and ideally don't bring cakes/sweets which attract nuisance river insects onto the boat.
