Is Herkimer Home Haunted?
Visitors frequently ask, “Is Herkimer Home haunted?” That certainly has been the subject of much debate. We find the best way to handle the “ghost question” is just to invite you in to decide for yourself.
Yes, we have stories to tell. Things sometimes do go bump in the night; sometimes they go bump in the broad daylight! Besides, these unexplained occurrences aren’t just limited to noises. There have been eye witnesses too.
Many have seen and heard things in this beautiful home and around the site that can’t be easily explained away such as doors opening and closing with no one round, and footsteps of someone walking in the halls.
To this day we’re not sure of the identity of all of the spirits here at Herkimer Home, but we suspect it’s some of the Herkimer family keeping a careful watch over the old family homestead. Many Herkimer’s lived, died, and are buried on this property. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, Herkimer Home State Historic Site is an absolute must-see-to-believe home.
We invite you to join Central New York Ghost Hunters, Herkimer Home Staff and volunteers for this exclusive 2 hour paranormal investigation of this famous historic site. Central New York Ghost Hunters focus on educating the public on paranormal activity, communication, and debunking. Participants will use a variety of ghost-detecting equipment such as EMF detectors, infrared thermometers, audio recorders and more. Herkimer Home staff will share the site’s history as they guide you to each investigation location on the hallowed ground. Based on the groups’ finding, you can determine whether the site is haunted!
The 2 hour Ghost Hunting Investigation will be held on Saturday, June 13. Groups will leave the Visitor Center every 30 minutes from 6pm to 10pm. The Hunt is recommended for ages 8 and older. The family-friendly hunts leave at 6pm, 6:30pm, and 7pm. Group size is limited. Tickets are $15 per person and all proceeds will go to Herkimer Home.
This fund raising program will conclude with light refreshments in the Visitor Center exhibit area. Gifts and Ghost Hunter shirts will be available for purchase.
Reservations are required. Please email Karen.Sheckells@parks.ny.gov to reserve your space. Visit www.gotghosts.org for more information about the Central New York Ghost Hunters.
