This workshop will give loggers a better understanding of the theory behind forest management and the application of silviculture for sustainable forest resources. Historical events. Current status. Silvicultural principles of New England. Forest types. What is silviculture. Considering landowner goals & objectives. Tree maturity, growth, vigor & value. Wildlife habitat. Harvesting systems & types of harvests. Logger's function in silviculture. Field session will focus on log scaling, grades and utilization at a local sawmill.
