This workshop is specifically designed to support Yoga teachers by nurturing the natural potential of their voices.
The workshop engages with exercises designed to awaken a sensory, physical and imagistic relationship with the voice. By the end of the workshop participants will have fostered a resonance and clarity to their voice combined with a sense of ease and authenticity. There will be time to address any particular individual concerns and tackle vocal challenges pertinent to teaching.
The overall aim of the work is to remove the physical and psychological blocks that inhibit the human vocal instrument. Once the voice is free it can connect intellectually and viscerally with language, transforming communication between speaker and listener.
The sessions provide a practical, experiential overview of the voice work outlined in the book Freeing the Natural Voice: Imagery and Art in the Practice of Voice and Language by renowned vocal coach Kristin Linklater.
The workshop will be led by Jivamukti regular, Ben Joiner, who is soon to graduate as one of 170 existing, designated Linklater teachers worldwide. Ben holds an MA in Voice studies from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Other coaching includes; The Oxford School of Drama, The Giles Foreman Centre for Acting, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance, Arts Educational Schools, plus coaching numerous companies and individual clients from the public and private sector.
