FREE Volunteer Training and Appreciation Event: Grand Isle

THANK YOU for your interest in this event! This event is FREE. We will have it RAIN or SHINE, and all ages are welcome (as long as kids are accompanied by an adult). Please arrive by 1 pm at: Grand Isle Community Center 3811 Louisiana 1 Grand Isle, La 70358 For questions call: 504-500-1880 Schedule: 1 – 3 pm: Meet at the Grand Isle Community Center for volunteer training. Training will be in a classroom setting; Dr. Erik Johnson, our Director of Bird Conservation, will go over what it means to be a Coastal Stewardship Volunteer, how to ID shorebirds and their nesting sites, what shorebirds need to be happy/healthy, etc. If time and weather allow, there will be a field walk. Snacks and water will be provided; feel free to bring your own items. 3 - 4 pm: Break for beach walks and birding 4 – 6 pm: Join us at the East Fishing Pier in Grand Isle State Park (you will NOT have to pay an entrance fee at state park!). Crawfish Boil Celebration for our volunteers, partners, and sponsors What to bring: Layer clothes to be comfortable whether it’s hot or cold (classrooms can be chilly!); Rain gear; Footwear and misc. gear for spending the afternoon on the beach (sunscreen, hat, etc.); Binoculars or spotting scopes (if you have them); a limited number of binoculars will be provided Contact: Ashley Peters (cell: 504-500-1880) if you have ANY questions.
