On May 21st at 6:00pm we will have a 45 - 60 minute workshop, hosted by Marsha Zangroniz.
This workshop is designed for any boater, fisherman, diver, or snorkeler heading out to enjoy our beautiful waterways and reef systems during the Memorial Day Weekend !
The "SEFCRI" - Southeast Florida Coral Reef Initiative, was developed in 2003 to address the status of our reefs.
This team, made up of stakeholders from local, state and federal government, academia, environmental non-government organizations, fishing, diving and watersports, private business and citizens at large created a Local Action Strategy of 140 projects with the overall goal to develop a comprehensive management strategy for the region!
This workshop will include information on:
-Mobile Phone apps that tell you were it is safe and not safe to drop anchor, and reef locations.
-Our local reefs and their importance.
-How reefs have a positive effect on coastal land during storms
-Medicinal benefits of Coral Reefs.
-Some of the threats facing our reefs and the general state of our coral reef ecosystem.
-What’s being done to maintain or improve the health of the ecosystem and what we can do to help the situation.
