First Saturday Community Labyrinth Walk: DOMINICAN SISTERS OF HOUSTON on Saturday, June 6, 10am-noon
Please join me for my monthly "First Saturday Community Labyrinth Walk" on Saturday, at the June 6, 10am-noon at the Dominican Sisters of Houston, 6501 Almeda Road. The Sisters have two labyrinths – we’ll be walking on the outdoor one. Both labyrinths are based on the 11-circuit design in the floor of Chartres Cathedral in France. The indoor labyrinth was blessed and dedicated in 2001 on September 29, celebrated as Founders' Day by the Dominican Sisters of Houston. The outdoor labyrinth installation was done by Marty Kermeen and Robert Ferré in the fall of 2002. The Sisters offer their labyrinths in a serene and beautiful space so that they and people in the wider community can experience prayerful walking as a creative tool for healing and spiritual enlightenment. The sacred circle of the labyrinth can symbolize Dominican spirituality, which transforms prayer and contemplation into action.
Please note: WE WILL WALK EVEN IF IT'S RAINING!
Each month I lead a group on walks at different labyrinths around the greater Houston area on first Saturdays at 10am. For each walk, I’ll introduce you to an aspect of labyrinths in general, using information from my own experience of the labyrinth as well as the wisdom found in two books: WALKING A SACRED PATH: REDISCOVERING THE LABYRINTH AS A SPIRITUAL TOOL by Lauren Artress and THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO LABYRINTHS by Cassandra Eason. Art supplies and a take-away art project will be available to stir up your creativity. The time you spend walking the labyrinth is up to you – I’ll open our gathering with a reading and some information about the specific labyrinth we are walking and the art supplies will be ready for use at any time. I’ll be there two hours and I’m asking for a love offering of $5 (cash and checks only). I love the powerful energy of the labyrinth as a spiritual tool for transformation, for questioning, and for grounding, which is why I am doing these monthly walks and why I want to share information about this powerful tool with others.
