'Faith Activism: Does it work?' What does it mean for activism to work? what is a distictive faith contribution to activism? How can differing faith perspectives work together for radical peace and justice? This Open Space event is open to all who are provoked by the question in the title. What questions does it raise for you? what conversations would you like to have with others provoked by the same question? Taking place on Saturday 16th May at Union Chapel in Islington, the event is hosted by Christian Peacemaker Teams, the Anabaptist Netowrk of Organisations and Union Chapel. The day begins at 10.30am with a panel discussion chaired by former Greenbelt CEO Beccie D'Cuhna and including... Martin Newell from London Catholic Worker, Salma Yaqoob Spokesperson for Birmingham central Mosque and chair of Birmingham stop the War coalition, Peter Tatchell prominent LGBTI and Human Rights activist, Muriel Schmid Programme Director of Christian Peacemaker Teams, Donald Reeves founder of Soul of Europe. After the opening panel discussion, the remainder of the day is given over to 'Open Space', a format that allows all present to call conversations about the issues and questions that they want to ask. This allows all attendees to set the agenda for the rest of the day and talk about the things that they are most passionate about with others who want the same conversations. The event title 'Faith activism: Does it work?' is hoped to provoke questions around what it means for activism to 'work', what is distinctive about a faith contribution, how can differing faith perspectives work together... basically whatever the title sparks off for you, or any other issue you think will connect with others. The daytime event finishes at 5pm but for those who want to stay we'll be carrying on into the wee small hours with a traditional ceilidh (an open mike session) so do come prepared with poetry, songs, stories etc. if you intend to stay later. Further details are on the attached flyer, but if you are intending on coming please do sign up on eventbrite at so that we can have an idea of numbers for catering. The event is free, though donations towards costs would be very welcome! Hope to see you there!
