El Turbo 12HR BANK HOLIDAY DAY/NIGHT ESPECIAL Welcome to 'EL TURBO'. An off-the-wall party channelling the spirit of The Haçienda, the Paradise Garage, the Warehouse and Northern Soul. We'll play you music bubbling with Ibizan Latin excitement, warmth and positivity - only the best in latest house sounds alongside the classics from Chicago and New York, 80s Italo Disco, Boogie and Balearic - if it makes us feel good, we play it for you. SUNDAY 24TH MAY sees us take over one of East London’s best LIVE music spaces for a 12 hour day-night Bank Holiday bonanza! The recently re-launched Victoria, Dalston in Hackney, now equipped with a huge Funktion-One (Official) Soundsystem, has a long standing heritage as a music venue and has been on the radar of gig goers for more than 3 decades. It’s also a great pub where the stunning illuminated 50’s bar island takes centre stage, boasting Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes classic cocktails, locally brewed craft beers and a selection of new and old world wines. Food on the day will be provided by the newest burger joint to hit East London, Psychic Burger. And for the love of the burger, it doesn’t get much better than Psychic's! Each burger is juicy, messy and downright sumptuous, just as burgers should be. But alas, there’s more on the menu than just burgers; from baby back ribs, soft shell crab burgers, to fried chicken and Victoria house favourite chili cheese fries for the mains, as well as a snack menu to help fuel you through El Turbo's 12 hour bank holiday fiesta. For this extra special show, EL TURBO resident DJs will spin from 2pm right through until 2am, alongside a truly inspirational guest artist in Hacienda resident, Dave Haslam. DJ and writer DAVE HASLAM DJ’d over 450 times at the legendary Hacienda in Manchester during the late 1980s - making his debut on May 1st 1986 before IAN BROWN, TIM BURGESS and the CHEMICAL BROTHERS all later credited his eclectic Thursday night sets as an inspiration. In 1990 he toured America with house music legends MIKE PICKERING, GRAEME PARK, and PAUL OAKENFOLD, before spawning a variety of successful Manchester club nights of his own, including ‘Yellow’ at the Boardwalk. He attended JOY DIVISION’s last ever show back in May 1980; and since then, SONIC YOUTH have slept on his floor; TONY WILSON threatened to shoot him; he took JOHN PEEL to see PUBLIC ENEMY; he’s cooked cauliflower cheese for MORRISSEY; NEIL TENNANT introduced him to TRACEY EMIN; he’s been namechecked by NODDY HOLDER and ANDREW MARR; he’s appeared in the films 24 Hour Party People and in Carol Morley’s The Alcohol Years; he’s has created installations for art exhibitions in Berlin; headlined the PAUL SMITH party during Paris Fashion Week 2010; and played afterparties for NEW ORDER, GORILLAZ, and DEPECHE MODE. In the 1980s Haslam founded ‘Debris’, a post-punk fanzine. He’s the author of, ‘Manchester England’, a ground-breaking study of Manchester’s radical and musical history, which on World Book Day in 2003 was declared one of the ten books that best represent England (alongside books by the likes of Jeremy Paxman, Zadie Smith, and George Monbiot). He’s subsequently written two more books; ‘Not Abba, The Real Story of the 1970s’ and ‘Adventures on the Wheels of Steel’, a book about superstar DJs. His journalism has appeared in ‘NME’, ‘The Times’, ‘The New Statesman’ and ‘The Guardian‘ and he’s a contributor to ‘The London Review of Books‘, and for more plenty more info on Dave Haslam just click here: http://www.davehaslam.com/ Forget your 9-5, bring your friends and bring the bank holiday vibe. #ELTURBO Featuring EL TURBO DJs: THE AKY EXPRESS / DON CHAMPOS / DR HARBENSTEIN / EDUARDO TURBO / EL GÉN / HYPER NIPS / FLYING SCOTMEN / LOVE HAMP / OLÉ EVERITT / PACE BASTARD / TOMMASO / TRON BUXTON / VIBE SMITH ____________________________________________________ ADDRESS: The Victoria, 451 Queensbridge Road, London, E8 3AS NEAREST TUBE: Dalston Junction London Overground Station (1 minute walk, turn right upon exiting the station, then on your right when reaching Queensbridge Road) TICKETS: £3/5 MOTD - http://bit.do/elturbo A JaguarShoes Collective Venue FUNKTION-ONE SOUND
