Highlights of the trip: --------------------------- - River Rafting - Otavalo market - Cuicocha crater lake - Horseback riding - Cotopaxi: World's highest active volcano - Quilotoa crater lake - Biking at the avenue of the waterfalls - Bungee jumping - Canyoning - The swing at the end of the world Day 1: Welcome to Quito: ----------------------------------- Following arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel in the heart of Quito where you’ll be able to explore the highest official capital city in the world. Overnight in Quito. Day 2: Rafting the Toachi-Blanco Rivers ----------------------------------------------------- What a better place to start exploring the rivers of Ecuador than the Toachi and Blanco Rivers. Rafting in the Toachi and Blanco rivers in the Andean cloud forest is one of the most intense adventures you can experience. With non-stop thrilling rapids through 30 kilometers combined with the beautiful surrounding sights and sounds of the forest, is guaranteed tomake your day memorable. After a thrilling morning, you will stop for a refreshing picnic lunch of fresh tropical fruits surrounded by the beautiful forest environment. Then head back to the hotel where you’ll have a chance to continue exploring Quito or relax with a beautiful view of the mountains. Overnight in Quito(B/L) Day 3: Exploring Otavalo and Cuicocha ------------------------------------------------------- After an exhilarating day of whitewater rafting, you will spend a relaxing day exploring the indigenous towns of Otavalo and Cuicocha. Otavalo is a beautiful little town with a market famed for its textiles, jewelry and arts and crafts. You will then travel a short distance to the town of Cuicocha where you will be exploring its cultural leather and fabric market. Overnight in Quito. (B) Day 4: Exploration on Horseback: -------------------------------------------------------- Today, you will leave Quito behind and head south through the Avenue of Volcanoes and explore the surroundings of the Cotopaxi National Park, the world’s highest active volcano. After a morning of horseback riding in Chagra style (Andean cowboy) and exploring, you will stay the night in a farmhouse at an altitude of 3,600 meters at a very scenic spot. (B/L) Day 5: Cotopaxi Hike and Adventure --------------------------------------------------- After breakfast, you will visit the Cotopaxi National Park, which was named after the Cotopaxi Volcano, the world’s highest active volcano. You’ll explore the area surrounding the Cotopaxi volcano and take a short hike in the surrounding areas. You will end your day at the indigenous village of Insilivi in the heart of the mountains. Overnight in Insilivi (B/L/D) Day 6: Insilivi-Chugchilan Hike ------------------------------------------ After breakfast you will prepare for a hike through the cloud forest from Insilivi to Chugchilan. This is the perfect opportunity to see the daily habits of the local people and to see the exquisite Andean landscapes. You will be trekking across valleys along the Tocahi River until you reach the small village of Chugchilan. (Overnight in Chugchilan) (B/L) Day 7: Quilotoa Loop Trek ------------------------------------ On this day you will continue your trekking, going up to the Quilotoa loop. You will then move through the town of Guayama where you’ll have the chance to relax or continue exploring. Continue hiking through the Andes until you reach the beautiful Quilotoa Crater Lake where you’ll have a chance to take another break. Later, you’ll make your way to Salcedo. Overnight in Salcedo (B/L) Day 8: Salcedo to Avenue of the Waterfalls ----------------------------------------------------------- Today, you will make your way to the awe-inspiring Banos de Tungurahua, or Avenue of the Waterfalls, where you’ll have a chance to bath in its famous thermal pools and the Pailon Del Diablo Waterfall. (Overnight in Banos) (B) Day 9: Banos --------------------- Today you will have some free time to choose one of these optional activities: mountain bike through the Avenue of the cascades, Bungee Jumping, Canopy tour or the Tree House at the End of the World. (Overnight in Banos) (B) Day 10: Banos to Chimborazo ---------------------------------------- We continue south towards the Chimborazo National park, famous by the volcano which carries its same name, which is the highest volcano of Ecuador and the furthest point to the centre of the Earth. Today we will have about 45 minutes hike to 1 hour starting from the Carrel refuge at 4,800 m (15,744 ft.) climbing up to the Whymper refuge at 5,000 m (16,400 ft.). After this adventurous experience, we will continue our way back to Quito. Day 11: Departure ------------------------- After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport to catch your flight back home.
