Del Mar Lodge #1350 A.F. & A. M. annually provides educational scholarships ranging from $500.00 to $1000.00 to graduating seniors of the Coastal Bend and Del Mar College students. A major consideration in the selection process is the many barriers facing high-performing, low-income students who are "in the middle", who are interested in post-secondary education but don't qualify for financial aid because they make too much but at the same time their family income is such that it stresses the resources when having to pay for higher education. The scholarship can be awarded to a student who is pursuing a College Degree (Associates or Higher), a Trade Degree, or a Professional Certificated Program (AC&R, Truck Driver, Nurse’s Aide, or other such recognized certificate programs).
The Del Mar Lodge Scholarship Committee contacts the College and Career Counselors (C&CC) at Corpus Christi area public schools advising them that the Lodge is looking for one or more worthy applicants. The C&CC is asked to screen their seniors for a student who meets the following requirements (Student and C&CC initial each bullet):
•Is considered a student in the “middle” for education grants and scholarship funding.
•Has NOT received and will NOT pursue a scholarship from another Masonic Organization.
•The student has a financial need for the scholarship.
•Is pursuing his/her educational goals with the support of his/her parent(s)/guardian(s).
•Has a high GPA and class standing.
•Has taken challenging courses, e.g., AP, Dual Credit, IB.
•Is active in school extra & co-curricular activities.
•Has demonstrated leadership abilities by having served in leadership roles during high school years.
•Has or is involved in volunteer activities.
•Is active in non-school organizations and/or activities.
•Is actively saving and/or working towards the necessary activities and/or resources to make their education goals a reality.
•Will enroll in a local (Corpus Christi) post-secondary educational institution, e.g., Del Mar College, TAMU-CC, Voc-Tech or Trade School or Institution in the Fall Semester of 2015.
•Will have the post-secondary educational institution send to Del Mar Lodge 1350’s mailing address their proof of enrollment and student ID number NLT September 15, 2015.
•Understands that Del Mar Lodge 1350 will issue a check to the institution providing the proof of enrollment and student ID number, so that the funds are deposited in the student’s account for exclusive use to pay for tuition and books.
•Understands that should the student withdraw or drop from the institution, the scholarship funds will be refunded to Del Mar Lodge 1350.
•Understands that if the student does not fulfilled his/her obligation as outlined above, the scholarship will be withdrawn, and any funds issued will be returned to Del Mar Lodge 1350.
