ABOUT DANCING FOR JANE..
Dancing for Jane is an initiative created by Australian dancer and choreographer Lucy Doherty in honour of her mother Jane who sadly passed away from breast cancer last year. Through moving contemporary dance productions, Lucy hopes to unite people in honour of the many families whose lives have been affected by cancer, and at the same time raise money for cancer care services.
Last year Dancing For Jane's first production entitled One moved and inspired Queensland audiences when it was staged in the Doherty's home town on the Sunshine Coast..
"I feel honoured to have just watched the most beautiful display of dance, movement and passion tonight. Congratulations to all the dancers and to Lucy for her truly magical choreography. A lovely way to celebrate life." Liz Teece ~ Audience member
Half the proceeds from ticket sales of the show were donated to Cittamani Hospice - a service that allowed the Doherty family to care for Jane at home until the end of her life. The other half of proceeds has been put towards re-staging the show this year in cities around Australia with each show raising money towards a local cancer related charity.
"After my mum passed away I wanted to honour her life in the best way I knew how - through dance. The show brought people together in a special night of remembrance and healing, with the power of dance uniting the community - celebrating life and acknowledging how precious our time here really is. It is my dream to be able to share this meaningful experience of dance with more people around Australia and maybe even the world, inviting audiences to gain a new appreciation and deeper connection with contemporary dance." Lucy Doherty ~ Dancing For Jane creator & choreographer.
Dancing For Jane is excited to announce a very special day of workshops following the production of One, giving dancers the opportunity to come and learn from the talented cast members and choreographer of the show.
