As many of you will now know, we had very premature twins in late July. Sadly, little Rosie didn't make it. Freddie has been in hospital for 106 days and as I write this, we are gearing up to finally get him home. As a little token of thanks, I'm going to cycle from the bottom to the top of Ireland and I'm looking for volunteers to share in my suffering/adventure/trip.
I'd really like a show of hands at this stage. The exact logistics will be calculated once I know who's going. My provisional plan is to start at the bottom and cycle north stopping in B&Bs and youth hostels. My parents have agreed to go as 'back up' in their campervan, so transporting bags, etc is sorted.
The total distance is approx. 360 miles, so I reckon 4 cycling days of approx 90 miles per day. The event will start on the later bank holiday weekend in May 2015 (Saturday - Tuesday).
I'm on setting up a sponsorship page which will enable me/us to raise some money for the Sunderland Royal Neonatal Unit and 4Louis (a charity for parents of stillborn children).
If you're up for the challenge - please let me know by the end of the year so I can get the ball rolling!
Ok, so I thought I'd best get looking at this and have realised that transfers from Cork to Mizen Head (approx 60 miles) and Malin Head to Armagh or Belfast (100 miles +) is a logistical nightmare and costly affair. I've therefore re-jigged the route slightly to Cork - Befast (approx 270 miles / 3 days). This is far easier logistically, cheaper and fewer days off work. Flight/train to Cork Friday 22nd May, cycling Saturday-Monday, fly home/travel back Tuesday. I've got a .pdf with details of routes and accommodation. Can you please let me know if you're still interested as I'll need to book accommodation asap. Cheers!
