Carry The Fallen - Veteran Suicide Awareness Ruck-March with KHS, Water Front Park, Cave Hill Cemetery and Sullivan University
Active Heroes, a 501c3 charity presents the Carry The Fallen Ruck-March event. Carry The Fallen is a team hiking event lasting 3, 6, 12 or 22 hours (depending on the event) that is part of the charity's Active Challenges program that builds camaraderie, wellness, morale and connects military families with supporters and peer mentors. Participants carry weight to symbolize the emotional weight that many veterans are carrying after war. 22 veterans a day take their own lives and Active Heroes is working towards reducing these numbers with a one of a kind Military Family Retreat Center located in Shepherdsville, KY. Carry the Fallen participants can FUNDRAISE towards building the retreat center after registering.

Active Heroes - Team Louisville will be having their Memorial Day 2015 ruck event on Saturday, May 16, 2015. The event will begin at Louisville Waterfront Park on River Rd. in Downtown Louisville. We have partnered with the Kentucky Humane Society to walk in conjunction with them around the WaterFront Park Loop during a walk that they are doing. After we have done that, we will proceed down Main St. to 9th Street (by the Louisville Slugger Museum) where we will turn left. We will then turn onto MArket Street and follow it to 4th Street, we we will then continue up 4th Street-through 4th Street Live- all the way to Broadway. We will then follow Broadway for it's entirety until it ends at Baxter Avenue. Once there, the ruck will enter Cave Hill Cemetery and walk through the hallowed grounds of this cemetery, which is on the National Register of Historical Places. We will stop in the veterans section for a moment of silence to honor the fallen who are buried there. From there we will exit the cemetery through the Grinstead Drive exit and follow Grinstead back to Baxter Avenue/Bardstown Road. We will turn onto Bardstown and follow it through the historic Highlands District and on to the ending point at Sullivan University, where we will have our closing ceremony and patching ceremony. There will be parking at the Waterfront Park, although it may be paid parking so plan accordingly. There is also a couple large public parking lots at the ending point. It is recommended that some people park at the end point and car pool to the beginning with others to ensure that we have adequate coverage to get team members back to their vehicles at the end of the ruck. Flashing lights or reflectors belts are encouraged for early morning hiking or night time events. bring plenty of water, sports drinks with no excess sodium, first aide kit and energy snacks. Bathroom breaks are generally planned but keep in mind that Team Leaders are working to keep everyone together to accomplish the long distance event, so stops wont be frequent unless of medical emergencies.
