The 3rd Canterbury WNBR
Location: Canterbury Castle, Gas Street, (off Castle Street), Canterbury CT1 2PR
NB: Assemble from 1430 for a prompt start at 1530. This is a later start than previously planned.
This is part of the annual worldwide demonstration protesting against the global dependency on oil and is one of 15 WNBRs taking place in the UK this summer.
Sadly, too many cyclists are injured or killed in road traffic collisions across the UK every day. Kent, and the Canterbury area are, regrettably, included in this grim statistic. The most common excuse given by motorists who have just killed a cyclist is "I didn't see them". Strangely, the WNBRs across the world have proved that naked cyclists ARE seen and not ignored.
We shall also include a protest against Canterbury City Council in this year's WNBR, for their continuing failure to meet the legal requirement of safe levels of air pollution which remain a daily hazard to the health of cyclists and pedestrians in Canterbury.
Nudity is permitted as part of the demonstration to emphasise the vulnerability of the human body when faced with the everyday dangers of cycling on the UK roads. Nudity is not compulsory - all WNBRs ask participants to ride "as bare as you dare" and many use body paint to decorate themselves or to paint appropriate slogans on their body.
The WNBR is also a celebration of cycling and of the human body that powers a bicycle.
Please invite your friends who you think would wish to join this cycling demonstration on 30 May to join this Group. The more who ride, the greater the notice will be taken of us and our reasons for holding a Canterbury WNBR. Please spread the word.
On Saturday 30th May 2015 riders will assemble at Canterbury Castle from 2pm to prepare themselves and their bikes for the WNBR which will start promptly at 3pm.
All participants are required to ride a bicycle and be proficient in riding safely and slowly in a group of other cyclists. Participants will not be permitted to walk, run, jog or skate for safety reasons. Any under-16-year olds MUST be accompanied by their parent/guardian.
