We will kick off the day with a guided walk through Bosco Santo Pietro Nature Reserve’s remarkable natural beauty. The tour will take us through the stunning countryside valley of Molara and towards the famous hunters’ water spring. The reserve covers an area of about 2000 hectares and is very popular for its wide range of flora and fauna.
We will then go for a buffet lunch at Comunita Di Grazzia (Caltagirone). There will be a typical Sicilian menu of focacce with local salt and extra virgin olive oil, and assorted traditional pizza options (fresh black olives, anchovies, dried tomatoes, ricotta cheese etc); prepared at the centre’s authentic wood-fired oven. Local wine and fruit will be served also.
For the afternoon guided tour we will walk through the spectacular rolling plains of Gela and watch the popular stork colony; considered to be the largest in Italy. The plains of Gela contain some marvelous species such as the European Roller, Lesser Kestrel, Stone Curlew and the Black Wing Pratincole, all of which we will look out for!
