“He sang, and the world stood still,” says the Evening Standard of Benjamin Clementine’s sell-out shows at London’s Purcells Rooms. The performance came hot on the heels of the self-taught singer and pianist’s appearance on Later… with Jools Holland, after which he became the most shared artist in the UK for a week on Spotify (and made a fan of none other than Sir Paul McCartney). “Visceral doesn’t even begin to describe Clementine’s songs, which combine the hurt and danger of Nina Simone, Antony Hegarty’s tremulous passion and Laura Mvula’s boundary-straddling music” (Sunday Times Culture).
