A benefit and silent auction will be held on Saturday May 16 for twin girls Stella and Victoria Fraser. The twins were born 13 weeks prematurely. Both girls required intubation and a ventilator for breathing and as a result, Victoria suffers from moderate BPD (also known as chronic lung disease).
This March, both girls became sick with what appeared to be a cold and within a day of being sick Victoria was taken to the QEH and then flown to the IWK. Two days later Stella was admitted to the QEH and then flown to the IWK as well. Both girls were in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and were positive for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). Victoria was also positive for micro plasma while Stella was positive for H-flu. Stella and Victoria were both sedated and intubated and required a ventilator for breathing. They have been transferred to the IWK Paediatric Unit and their mother Michelle remains with them day and night in Halifax, while other family members try to travel back and forth for visits and support.
