PROPOSED DELISTING OF GRAY WOLVES:
Bowing to special interests, the Obama Administration, Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell, and the USFWS have proposed to remove the GRAY WOLF (Canis lupus) from the list of threatened and endangered species in the lower 48.
Because of this, THOUSANDS of wolves have been SLAUGHTERED.
Please tell the USFWS in your own words that you are AGAINST THE GRAY WOLF DELISTING PROPOSAL, and that all wolves in the lower 48 need our government's protection!
COMMENT TALKING POINTS:
- The ESA requires USFWS to base all listing and delisting decisions on the best available science. A panel of independent scientists who was commissioned to give an objective review agreed unanimously that the delisting rule is based on insufficient science.
- States where wolves have already been delisted are NOT managing their wolves like other wildlife -- instead their goal is to aggressively hunt, trap and poison wolf packs to keep the bare minimum of wolves required by law.
- The gray wolf has barely begun to recover or is absent from significant portions of its former range where substantial suitable habitat remains in the Pacific Northwest, California, the southern Rocky Mountains, Southwest and the Northeast. These areas are important to the long-term survival and recovery of wolves and to the ecosystems of these regions.
