Balthazar Beats presents a night of frenzied Eastern European dance and ukulele folk, introducing Vagalatschk and Luna Silva...
Vagalatschk are a Switzerland-based 7-piece Hypnotic Gypsy Groove Orchestra who do just what it says on the tin. Terming their sound "Grunk" - "the sound of an ancient animal or a deep, hoarse cry after dawn", they set out to awaken your primal desire to dance like a demon. The band merges the sounds of Afro-American music of the 1970s with its own take on the gypsy music of Eastern Europe, throwing up melodies evocative of Macedonia and Romania atop of seventies funk grooves and Ethiopian rhythms.
Luna Silva's set is a summer waltz to a ukulele rhythm, with subtle and heartfelt inflections of English and Spanish folk.
