An innovative live musical performance by local acts for Carlow Arts Festival
T.B.A., 59 Dublin Street, Carlow
Friday May 29: 8pm
Auxiliary Phoenix is James Strain, an experimental hip hop producer, multi-instrumentalist & DJ based in Carlow, Ireland. Coming from a background of progressive rock, old school hip hop and turntablism, these elements are combined in his music through modern wonky hip hop production. His latest EP is mixture of jazz fusion and hip hop production, with a progressive rock direction.
Auxiliary Phoenix will be performing with James McDermott, with both playing bass, guitar, keyboard & synthesizer, showcasing the music from the forthcoming EP, Camelopardalids.
Jasper Rua is a Solo instrumentalist from Ireland. He writes music of experimentation and songs of various emotions with his guitar and other instruments. At a live setting, Mr Rua might take you from a five to six minute improvised looped ambient soundscape straight into a Madrid car chase scene straight into a memory of a loved one’s warm embrace.
Jasper Rua’s influence for music derives from the purity of the acoustic guitar and the masters of this instrument that he discovered from friends and the world of YouTube. Kaki King was the introduction to his musical niche. Then followed the likes of Tommy Emmanuel, Antoine Dufour, Stefano Barone, Erik Mongrain and others with a similar love for the instrument’s sound.
