ArtBoxNZ is a collaboration between Maersk Line and Ports of Auckland, and New Zealand street artists Askew One and Trust Me. The ArtContainer will be back in NZ sometime in 2015. Watch this space for details.
At SeePort 2014, our open day event on Captain Cook wharf, Askew One and Trust Me painted the sides of a 40 foot refrigerated Maersk container (box).
Shipping has been described as 'the invisible industry that brings you 90% of everything'. Stuff appears in the shops as if by magic and most people probably don't consider how it got there. Why should they?
This project aims to make that process more visible by making one container stand out from the crowd. It will now go back into service and will be like a giant postcard from New Zealand/Aotearoa as it goes from job to job.
We'll track its progress round the world and post updates here. If you see it, take a picture and post it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube etc. Tell us where you saw it and use one or all of these hashtags: #ArtBoxNZ #PortsofAuckland #MaerskLine
Next year, at SeePort 2015, we hope that with a bit of luck we will have our box back on show, along with the story of its travels.
