Grammy legend Michael Bolton brings a hit filled set list of soulful classics, power ballads and beautiful arias to The Palais Melbourne on Saturday 16 May, for An Evening with Michael Bolton.
Michael's artistic achievements include two Grammy Awards, six American Music Awards, twenty four BMI & ASCAP Awards, nine Million-Air Awards, Hitmakers Songwriter of the Year Award and a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
His diverse musical interests have produced eight Top Ten studio albums and nine chart topping singles across Pop, Jazz & Classical charts and global sales of more than fifty three million. His twenty third studio album, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, (Sony Music) is an authentic tribute to Hitsville USA in collaboration with Motown legends Smokey Robinson and Valerie Simpson and features duets with contemporary artists Kelly Rowland, Michael Lington, Melanie Fiona and Delta Goodrem.
Michael was awarded his first Grammy for the six-time Platinum album, Soul Provider which sold almost thirteen million copies and contained several chart toppers - the #1 hit How Am I Supposed To Live Without You?, Soul Provider, How Can We Be Lovers? and When I'm Back On My Feet Again.
His second Grammy blockbuster, When A Man Loves A Woman, featured on the #1 album Time, Love & Tenderness, along with Steel Bars, Love Is A Wonderful Thing and Missing you Now.
More hits followed - To Love Somebody and Reach Out I'll Be There, That's What Love Is All About, the Grammy nominated Said I Loved You…But I Lied, the tribute Bolton Swings Sinatra and the album of arias, My Secret Passion, which remained at #1 for a record breaking six weeks on the classical charts.
A prolific songwriter, Michael has written for more than one hundred artists and penned #1 hits for Barbra Streisand, Cher, KISS, Kenny G and Laura Branigan, collaborated with Lady Gaga, Ne-Yo and Dianne Warren and is one of the few to have co-written with Bob Dylan, which resulted in the mega hit, Steel Bars. His songs and performances have been placed in numerous television and film soundtracks, including the Oscar nominated theme to Walt Disney’s animated blockbuster Hercules, Go The Distance.
Duets with Delta Goodrem, Eva Cassidy, Seal and Rascal Flatts feature on Michael’s Gems album and he collaborated with The Lonely Island on the Emmy nominated Captain Jack Sparrow. Launched on Saturday Night Live, this viral sensation has more than one hundred and thirty million hits and ranks in third place on 2011’s most viewed Youtubes and 2014’s Billboard’s Favourite SNL Songs.
Michael pays homage to Luciano Pavarotti at each concert with the aria Nessun dorma and has also shared the stage with Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras, Renee Fleming, Seal, Lara Fabian and BB King. He earned a Grammy nomination for his cover of Georgia On My Mind, which was performed with Ray Charles at the jazz greats induction to the Hall of Fame.
A devoted social activist, Michael is especially proud of the initiatives carried out by his own foundation over more than two decades. The Michael Bolton Charities advocates of behalf of women and children at risk and he has been recognised with several Humanitarian honours, including the Martin Luther King Award granted by the Congress of Racial Equality, the Lewis Hine Award from the National Child Labour Committee and the Frances Preston Lifetime Achievement Award.
People magazine’s 2011’s Sexiest Man In His Fifties and 2012’s Sexiest Man Alive is also an avid golfer and says in his recent memoir, The Soul of It All: My Music, My Life, that he is just teeing off on the back nine of his career.
