INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Scooter enthusiasts from across the county, and around the world, will be racing to Indianapolis for the largest gathering of vintage and modern scooters in the country. Indy Scooter Club (Indy SC), The North American Scooter Racing Association (NASRA), and Vespa Club of America (VCOA) announce that Indianapolis & Speedway will be the hosts for Amerivespa 2015.
“We're really excited to show off Indianapolis,” says Chris Sublett, president of Indy SC. “Indianapolis has a strong scooter culture and we’ve been working really hard to plan an event that will show off the best off our city. We would also like to give a special thank you to the dedicated employees and officials of Speedway, IN. They’ve made Main Street the perfect place to hold so many of our amazing actives.”
Members of Indy SC submitted a proposal to host Amerivespa to VCOA in April, with The Indianapolis Motor Speedway being a big selling point in their bid. Participants will bring their scooters from cities and towns across the country for an opportunity to ride around the world-famous track.
“A ride around the Indy 500 Track is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” says Jac Carolan, president of VCOA. “Indy SC’s passion for riding and raising scooter awareness was also very evident in their proposal.” Averivespa will be in Indianapolis June 11-14, 2015. In addition to riding on the track, activities will include organized tours of the city, a vendor marketplace, evening hangouts, and a formal banquet.
No rally would be complete without a gymkhana where scooterists will show off their riding skills for pride and glory. The course will be presented by NASRA and promises to be one of the best yet. “NASRA looks forward to having the opportunity to showcase scooter racing in a gymkhana format.” says Jeremy Hall, president of NASRA. “It allows us to try some new things and expand on the traditional layout. We’re stoked to have the opportunity!”
Most recently, Amerivespa has been held in New Orleans, San Diego, and Lake Geneva. Details, as well as registration, can be found at www.amerivespa.org as they become available.
