So who's up for a hike followed by a trip to a winery?
May 16th, I'll host a hike to Bear Church Rock in Shenandoah National Park. It'a an 8.5 mile hike with an elevation gain/loss of 2210'. This hike starts along the beautiful Rapidan River, then heads up alongside Staunton River with small falls and pools, before making a steep climb to the panoramic outcropping of views at Bear Church Rock. We will then take a break for snack/lunch to enjoy the view. Expect the hike to be about 5 hours. There is a potential side trip (half mile) to Jones Mountain Cabin, one of the best cabins in Shenandoah.
Post hike, let’s stop at the beautiful Early Mountain Vineyard for a tasting, and/or a glass and perhaps some snacks. This place is very large and cozy with tables, couches, an outdoor terrace, often times live music, and a kitchen with a great menu! Not to mention a nice wine selection.
Here is a link to the hike we'll take:
Parking at the trailhead is limited so please consider car pooling. We can meet as a group before traveling to the trailhead or just meet at the trail. Parking is at the end of VA662 in the Graves Mill parking area. (GPS: 38.43695, -78.36710)
I may have to limit the number of people to 20. I'll check with the winery on reservations.
