Good news. I just spoke with the Alton Township supervisor's office. US Veterans Foundation is in the Alton Memorial Day parade.
Anyone that would like to participate in the Alton Memorial Day Parade as representatives of the US Veterans Foundation please hit the Join button.
The Memorial Day Parade in Alton, Illinois is the Nation's oldest, consecutively running Memorial Day parade. The parade was the first of its kind just three years after the end of the Civil War with the intent to help our Country heal from war. The parade was held initially in Honor of those who fought in the Civil War, both Confederate and Union Soldiers. The parade has ran every year, without fail, since that first event in 1868, and it has now become a tradition of Alton to Honor all of our Military brothers and sisters who have fallen in war.
We are trying to get a count of how many would like to participate in this event with the US Veterans Foundation. Your families are definitely encouraged to participate, as our Military families most certainly make sacrifices right along with those who go into war. This is also a good opportunity to introduce our kids to the tradition of Honoring our Fallen. If we get enough interest in participating in the parade, we plan to have at least one pick-up truck driving under the US Veterans Foundation banner. If we get enough responses from those who would like to attend, we may even get a large trailer. We would encourage anyone who is able and willing to walk in accompaniment with our vehicle. For all others, we will plan to get you onboard ether the truck or the trailer.
The parade is on Monday, 25 May, 2015, and begins at 1000 hours. We will of course have to stage earlier than the start time. More details will follow once we have an idea of how many would actually like to participate in the parade. We understand that for many of our USVF'ers out there, the location is too far for you to participate. We encourage all who are in close locality to come join us in force so we can get the word out about who we are. We ask that only those who can actually be present in Alton for the parade select the "Join" button to help us get a good count of who can physically be here. Thanks.
