Dominican singer/songwriter Xiomara Fortuna is one of the most creative composers in the Caribbean today. Inspired by traditional songs as well as blues, she comes from a background in Troubadour music, but fuses many other styles such as Jazz, Folk and Rock to make her a unique artist to watch. Xiomara is a prolific writer with nine albums in her roster and two more currently in production; her music is also included in several collections (Putumayo Records).
Besides being a versatile and diverse artist, Xiomara is also an activist. In 2008 UNESCO awarded her the Gandhi Medal for her work for peace. She was also recently declared a national treasure in the Live Arts Festival. She has taken her music to Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe, participating in festivals such as the Pyrenees South Couleur Coffee, the FITA festival among others.
Now presenting her music here in NYC in her event “Afro Dominican Roots Celebration,” Xiomara will be accompanied by her musical director/arranger/guitarist Yasser Tejeda, as well as Drummer Victor Otoniel Vargas Percusionist Joel Guzman and Bassist Kyle Miles. Xiomara's evocative and powerful performances are not to be missed!
