Please join us in sharing the joy and fun of reading with youth (all ages) and families at the Fifth Annual Reading Bonanza in the Park, East Palo Alto, literacy expo. Saturday May 16th from 11am to 3pm at Bell Street Park in East Palo Alto, CA. Leaders are readers. Bring the kids for free food, free books, activities hosted by 30+ community organizations and 100+ volunteers, games, entertainment and free raffle prizes, including a Mac laptop! Everything will be free. www.readinginthepark.org To increase your chances of winning a laptop, compete in our Spelling Bee! College Track will be hosting the Fourth Annual “Spell It Out” Spelling Bee where the winners will be awarded a Mac laptop**. The 106 KMEL Street Team will be out playing music. Stanford Men’s Basketball Team will be working with youth and giving away basketballs and gear. The East Palo Alto San Mateo County library will host the Imagination Playground. ** Make sure to sign up for the Spelling Bee at the event. Students competing under 16 will need their parents present to win or to pick up the laptop. Other activities will be hosted by: Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity (Kappa Eta Sigma Alumni chapter), II DEEP and Menlo Atherton HS Girls Basketball, EPA Boys & Girls Club, EPA YMCA, Kepler’s Books/Peninsula Arts & Letters, Star Vista, YouthEPA, San Mateo County Human Services Agency, SMC EPA Library, East Palo Alto Greyhounds, Samoan Solutions, Ecumenical Hunger Program, Youth United for Community Action (YUCA), Midpen Media Center, YouthEPA, SEM Link, Palo Alto PAWS, Ravenswood School District, San Mateo Credit Union, San Mateo County Department of Child Support Services, and others TBD. The purpose of the event is to showcase the diversity of books and promote the joy of reading. Families will be exposed to community resources, programs and various aspects of reading for entertainment, education and empowerment… all while having fun and getting free stuff!!
