Band Together for Legal Aid, a Battle of the Legal Bands benefitting Dade Legal Aid presented by Sabadell United Bank, together with the Dade County Bar Association YLS and the Inaugural class of the Dade Legal Aid Leadership Academy, will host its fourth annual Battle of the Bands, kicking off Dade Legal Aid’s fundraising efforts for 2015. The event is hosted by Dade Bar Leaders, President Herman and Suzette Russomanno, Jeffrey and Kayla Rynor, Jude and Frances Faccidomo and Stuart and Mycki Ratzan and will showcase live music from groups featuring prominent South Florida lawyers on Saturday, May 30, 2015. The event will be held at Sidebar, a unique bar and music venue located on Calle Ocho and named Brickell’s New Favorite Hangout by The New Times.
Band Together for Legal Aid is composed of many of South Florida’s finest young professionals who are committed to ensuring that lack of financial resources is not a barrier to equal justice under the law. Chaired by Stephanie Grosman, a Dade Legal Aid staff attorney and member of the inaugural class of the Dade Legal Aid Leadership Academy, the event is expected to draw more than 300 supporters to raise much-needed funds for Dade Legal Aid. Guests will enjoy live music, drink specials and hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants.
Proceeds from the event will enable Dade Legal Aid to continue its mission of providing free legal services to qualifying low income residents of Miami-Dade County. A non-profit law firm in practice for over 60 years, Legal Aid has two components: in-house legal services and the Put Something Back pro bono program. Twenty staff attorneys specialize in family law, domestic violence, guardianship, child advocacy, housing, bankruptcy and foreclosure, with priority given to the protection of children.
Through the award-winning Put Something Back program, Dade Legal Aid matches volunteer attorneys with clients in need of civil legal services. "The demand for our services has reached an all-time high," said Karen Ladis, Executive Director of Dade Legal Aid, “and we greatly appreciate the combined efforts of our supporters, the participating bands, and all of our sponsors for backing us so that we can continue our mission of protecting children in crisis, victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and other vulnerable members of our community.”
