The Southern New England Heart Walk will take place for the first time ever at Station Park in Providence, RI! The American Heart Association's signature fundraising event, the Heart Walk features a 3 mile walk route and free health screenings, cardiovascular advice from experts, entertainment, giveaways, a kids' zone, and heart-healthy snacks.
Dozens of heart disease and stroke survivors of all ages attend the Heart Walk each year, wearing "Survivor Caps" or "Little Heart Hero" capes. This year, the red “heart” and white “stroke” Survivor Caps will be sponsored by Care New England Cardiovascular Care.
Dennis Keefe, President & CEO of Care New England will serve as the 2015 Heart Walk Chairman.
The Heart Walk is nationally sponsored by Subway. Local sponsors include Care New England Cardiovascular Care, The Cardiovascular Institute at Rhode Island Hospital, the Miriam Hospital and Newport Hospital – Lifespan Partners, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island, Bristol County Savings Bank, G Lopes Construction, Gilbane Building Company, Landmark Medical Center and Hinckley Allen. More than 3,000 participants raised over $425,000 for the fight against heart disease and stroke last year. The American Heart Association uses the funds raised through the Heart Walk to finance cutting-edge scientific research, conduct public and professional educational programs and advocate for public health. In Massachusetts and Rhode Island alone, $32.5 million in scientific research is currently funded by the American Heart Association.
