We are announcing our traditional annual Uzbek picnic to be held on Saturday May 23 - weather permitting. Same place that we've had for the past six years! At the last year's picnic we had 250 people!
We will be glad to see familiar faces and new people - Uzbeks and non-Uzbeks alike.
This year like in 2014 we will have a few cultural events.
1) We will have a Best Uzbek National Costume contest
There will be 2 or 3 winners who will receive special prizes.
We ask everyone to put on their national cloth, including children.
2) We would love to see our children perform - song, dance or poems - you pick. We will have some prizes for the performers.
We will have as usual lots of food, drinks, activities for children and adults.
We will prepare palov, kabob and other meals from chicken, lamb and beef - all HALAL. We will also have samsa.
The Mason Neck State Park is a great place for picnics. It is by the water, in the woods with a playground for children, with a trail and lots of space.
Bring your games, balls, playing cards, chairs if you want to enjoy the scenery.
As usual we will need volunteers for a few tasks.
We need contributors too. They are responsible to prepare 100 samsas per family. This will buy them tickets for the whole family.
We will also need Uzbek non. If anyone decides to come from New York or Phili, it would be nice to bring some non.
Since this is a community event, there are no guests - everyone is a host so please be active in helping our main organizers with anything you can. They are not paid to do this, try to be helpful, offer your help, clean up after yourself
We will need lots of knives to shred carrots for palov. Please bring with you.
Admission is 25 dollars per single person.
If you are a family with one or more children, you will pay 20 dollars per person. Free admission for children under 12.
Please pay the organizers at the start of the picnic and get your wristbands. Without them you won't be served food or drinks.
We also need coolers for drinks and to store meat for shashlik in ice. Please bring those too. The larger the better.
